›From the West‹

›Aus westlichen Richtungen (From the West)‹ explores how the idea of the ›West‹ as a social model inscribed itself in the post-war history of the Federal Republic. Journeys along highways, past construction sites, through suburbs and industrial areas alternate with the interior of a house in the process of disintegration. The narrator’s voiceover complements the restless camerawork: Henrich reflects on memories from her childhood, echoes stories told by her parents, who belonged to a K-group in the 1970s, and quotes texts by Adenauer and Ludwig Erhard. A focal point is the idea of homeownership as an answer to the social question.
