Tuomas Laitinen

Tuomas Laitinen’s work, combining moving images, 3D animations, and light and sound installations, cuts across disciplines and media to highlight the interconnectedness of all living beings. His artistic research deals mainly with questions of ecology and processes of knowledge production. To this scope, he often collaborates with other artists, especially glass artists, and with biologists and researchers of neural networks. The use of transparent materials, such as in  ›Haemocyanin‹, serves to open up glimpses of other epistemological systems, alternative to the dualistic ones rooted in Western, capitalistic worldviews. As a symbol of this breakthrough, the figure of the octopus recurs over and over in Laitinen’s long-term artistic project.
