›Ditch Plains‹
Loretta Fahrenholz filmed ›Ditch Plains‹ in New York at the time of Hurricane Sandy. The docufiction consists of footage of the natural disaster and scenes that Fahrenholz developed in close collaboration with the New York street dance crew ›Ringmasters‹. While the footage from the disaster area portrays actual states of emergency, the dancers improvise sequences in the streets at night, hotel corridors, and a fancy apartment. The camera’s perspective and, most of all, the movement of the dancers allude to uncanny human-machine interfaces, raids and virtual battles. Thus, ›Ditch Plains‹ makes use of a multitude of quotations from disaster films, street dance battles to computer games, which are linked to experiences in a time of permanent crisis.
